IL01: Jerusalem Highlights

We start the day  at the top of Mt. of Olives for a view and a review of the city’s history.

Next we descend to the garden Gethsemane, and crossing the kidron valley we enter the Old  City and join the “Via Dolorosa“,  walking through the streets of the old city up to the  Holy Sepulchre.

After a lunch + possible shopping break in the market of the old city, we continue to the Jewish Quarter and appreciate its synagogues and archaeological finds, including a visit to the Western wall.

If there is time and desire,  we can also go to a view towards Beth-Lehem from the hanging-olive-trees sculpture near kibbutz Ramat Rachel, and on the way back we pass by the parlaiment building (the “Knesset“); the Israel Museum,  and the Supreme Court Building.

Driving to its southern part we first visit the famous site of Masada, and appreciate its fantastic story and archaeological remains.

We then continue to Ein-Gedi, with an optional hike to its waterfalls. Combining a lunch break + an optional visit to the factory store of “Ahavah” (Dead Sea Cosmetics company), we end with a bath at the Dead Sea itself. Feeling younger and happier, we head back.

Happily fed we continue to visit Capernaum and the nearby Mt. of Beatitudes and\or Tabgha, all important holy Christian sites around the Sea of Galilee.

The new dig exposed also a buried theatre with a special VIP seat, perhaps of King Herod. All the new finds make Herodium one of the most interesting destinations to tour in the Holy Land.

The tour can also include Live shooting in the area, lunch in Gavna restaurant, and a tour to the “shephela” (=low hills) which include the possible battle site of David vs. Goliath, the land of Samson, and an optional visit to local wineries (e.g. Clos de Gat)
